Matt Haig is a famous British writer. His book The Midnight Library sold millions of copies. He often writes about regret and mental health. When he was young, he had a very hard time. At 24, he had a serious breakdown (精神崩溃). He could not leave his house for years. His girlfriend Andrea helped him a lot. Now they are married.

Haig is 50 now. He says time helped him find acceptance. "If you feel sad for a long time and keep regretting, you start to regret the regret," he says. Therapy (心理治疗) also helped him. His new book is called The Midnight Train. It is about an 81-year-old man named Wilbur. After a heart problem, Wilbur gets on a magic train. He visits his past, especially his honeymoon in Venice with his late wife Maggie. He wants to change the past. But he learns that peace comes from seeing what was already there.

Haig says regret is a big theme in his work. He thinks many people always feel they need one level higher in life. "If you always feel like you are failing, that feeling stays with you," he says. "You get what you dreamed of, but you stay the same unhappy person." He also says celebrities often go off the rails because they think success will fix everything, but it does not.

Haig has autism and ADHD. He learned this in 2021. It helped him understand himself. "A lot of things clicked into place," he says. He wants young men to accept being vulnerable (脆弱的). He thinks community and friends are more important than success. At the end of life, he says, you remember the people you lived with, not news stories.
