Feeling lonely is a big problem for many people. But some groups are using sports to help. They bring people together and make them feel better. Here are three examples.
Sport in Mind is a charity in the UK. It began in 2010 to help people with mental (心理的) health problems. The group offers free activities like walking, football, gardening, and dance. The goal is not to win games, but to help people feel confident and find a daily routine again. Neil Harris, the founder, says, "Having supported more than 60,000 people, I'm reminded every day of the power of sport."
The Bluetits Chill Swimmers is a free community for cold water swimming. It started in Wales and now has groups around the world. People meet outdoors to swim, chat, and build confidence. It's not about being a great swimmer. It's about spending time in nature and finding friends. The founder, Sian Richardson, says the simple act of getting into cold water together helps people feel connected and well.
GoodGym is different. It mixes exercise with helping others. Members run, walk, or cycle to local projects. They might clean a garden, sort donations (捐赠物) at a food bank, or help an older person with a task. Ed Field from GoodGym says, "The benefits go both ways. People feel healthier, more connected, and more purposeful through helping others."
These three groups show that sports can do more than keep us fit. They can build strong communities and make us feel less alone.
